Thank you Lord for all that you are doing, this is our prayer when all is well in our lives. Everything is going just as I expect for it to be going. So I am happy, and when I am happy, I have faith in God. Why is it then that the moment there is a hiccup of any kind in our daily lives, we start to doubt God? What’s going on? Everything was peachy yesterday, job, health, finances, family etc…So, why this hiccup? We stress out, we start getting anxious, asking questions and trying to figure it all out. Just yesterday we were giving praise now we are worried, scared and confused? Wow, with our sketchy faith!
This is common place because we are human and as humans we tend to let our circumstances dictate our emotions. It is a natural tendency i.e. we get a raise at work = Happiness, our hamster “Twinkie” of 5 years dies = sadness. Our emotions drive our attitudes and our attitudes drive how we live out our day. The problem is we lump our faith in with all the other emotions that are driven by those circumstances. Our faith should not be turned off and on by the circumstances in our lives. It should be constant, a force that leads to another state of being called Joy. If we do not recognize and distinguish our faith in God as a force that is as perfect as Gods plan and will for our lives, we are telling God His will and plan is not good. That it does not line up with our expectations and therefore we now doubt His plans! This is not what God expects from us. He is very clear about how much you should worry during the hiccups of life. Let us take a look at what is said about worrying, remember most of the time when we let our faith fly out the window is when we start to worry about our circumstance.
Do not worry (Jesus Speaking)
(Matthew 6:25-34 NIV)
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
“You of sketchy faith”
(2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV)
For we live by faith, not by sight.
“Not by sight”
(Romans 14:23 NIV)
But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.
“Everything that does not come from faith is sin”
(1 Timothy 1:19 NIV)
Holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.
“Shipwreck with regard to faith”
These scriptures hurt because the truth sometimes hurts, we need to learn that our lack of faith when we call ourselves followers of God is sinful and can lead to worse problems. How is God supposed to bless us with His plan/purpose for our lives when every time there is a hiccup we get all stressed out and anxious… There are much bigger challenges ahead and we must be steadfast in our faith with the little hiccups if we are to play out the bigger roles God has planned for our lives. What dictates your attitude every day? Emotional circumstances of life or our faith in an all powerful God? Let us pray and ask for Gods help in our faith in Him. Remember we will always fail but He seeks a sincere heart that acknowledges its shortcomings, asks for forgiveness and prays for His help… A surrendered heart is a sincere hear
Prayer of Faith
Lord God, thank you for all that you are. Thank you for the gift of your grace and mercy in my life. I have fallen short of your glory once again, because of my lack of faith during difficult times and not so difficult times. I am sorry for this Father, please forgive me. I am sorry for not giving you the praise you deserve during those times, for complaining, for being upset, for worrying, for doubting. I know you are in control and I need your help during these times to remember you are all powerful and your plan is perfect. I need help to remember that even if I do not understand, I need not fear anything because you are my God and you dwell in my heart. That through my faith in you there is hope and joy! Help me not to let the small and large circumstances of life stop me from proclaiming your name in victory every morning. From saying thank you for who you are and for living in me. Help me to sing a song of praise even when things seem out of place. I want to bring a smile to your face Father and with your help and of the Holy Spirit that lives within me, I know this is possible. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
